This piece is inspired by mygrandmother, who, as a young mother and farmer, loved fishing in the creek. A photo is included of the farm. I can almost hear the sizzle of fish on the old wood-fired stove in the evenings.
The pendant is cut from sterling silver with light repoussé work on the silhouette to suggest dimension and movement. The jewfish (a local fish on the Darling Downs where she lived) hangs from her hook, gills and fins stamped. The background is textured and given a patina. The patina will darken over time, giving the pendant a blacker sky and greater contrast, but has been sealed with Renaissance Wax to prolong the life of the colours. Care instructions are included.
